Mathcad 15 and connection to an ODBC MS Access 2007 + database

My company runs Windows 7 and  I have trouble with connecting to an ODBC Access 2007+ database in the new Access format *.accdb.  Has anyone else been experiencing the same problem.  Mathcad will connect through the ODBC window, but when you pick the table in the database the connection seems to get stuck and will eventually time out and crash the Mathcad file.  I also have a rather restrictive I.T. department, but I have been assured that I have full rights to the software on my machine.  Any suggestions our possible solutions would be appreciated.

How can I change a variable name automatically?

I want to change a variable name everywhere in one worksheet.

For example, I want to change a variable name "TEST" to "TEST2".

But, it is hundreds of times used in the worksheet and the manual editing seems impossible.

Is there any way to do that automatically?

license server not starting

Hi, We are running Mathcad using a license server. Unfortunately the server stopped working a couple of days ago. When trying to start the ptc_d daemon, the logfile shows 22:06:22 (lmgrd) ptc_d exited with status 25 (Invalid host) The hostname did not change, nor did the NIC. Any clues on what might be the problem?

Mathcad 6.0 + and Windows 7

Any Mathcad 6.0+ fans out there?

 

I've been using it since 1995.  I got the Mathcad 7 and 8 upgrades and hated them.  So, I've been using 6.0+ ever since. 

 

Mathcad 6.0+ ran fine on Win 95, Win NT, Win 98, Win 2000, and Win XP.  Win 2000 and XP were a little trickier to install. I just took a good install from a Win 95 machine, copied the whole WINMAD directory and transferred it to the 2000 or XP machine. Then I tweaked the Windows file associations manually. 

 

Now I have Windows 7.  I tried the same procedure.  Most everything works fine, except when I Save or Save As...  Mathcad 6.0+ shuts down abruptly.  I’ve fiddled with the Compatibility mode and settings, but I get the same results.

 

Any suggestions?

Mathcad 15 - Preferred units in results?

I am using Mathcad 15 for a course in Quantum Chemistry. Is there a way to set default units so that they match those commonly accepted in the dicipline?

 

For instance, when I calculate wavenumber, my result is in m^-1 rather than the commonly accepted cm^-1, and frequency is in s^-1 rather than Hz.

Displaying numerical value of symbolic variables

Hello fellow MathCad users,

 

Is it possible to display the numerical value of variables in a line of calculations. For example if I was to calculate the strength of a beam. I want the calculations to look like the following:

 

Depth of beam:                D = 300mm

Bredth of beam:               B = 125mm

Section modulus:             Z = 1/6 * B * D^2 = 1/6 * 125mm * 300mm^2 = 1.875 x 10 ^6 mm3

 

Bending strength:             fb = 38 MPa

Strength reduction:          phi=  0.8

Loading duration factor:    k = 0.8 


Bending strength:            Mn = phi*k*fb*Z = 0.8*0.8*38MPa*1.875 x 10 ^6 mm3 = 57 kNm


FYI I have MathCad 15 and MathCad Prime 3.0.

Mathcad 15 won't run on Windows 7

Hi

 

I have a computere with windows 7 x64 there, no matter what i do, won't run mathcad 15.

The installation seems to be completed without any problems, but when i try to run the application, the splash screen shows up, but after a short period of time, the application crash without any error messages except the Windows own "Mathcad application has stopped working".  I have another computer also with windows 7 x64, and here the application will start without any problems .  The only differense between these computers is that the first one is a "samsung" installation width showelware and all, and computer nr. 2 is a vanilla installation of windows.

 

I have tried the following

 

Reinstallation of MSXML 4.0 SP.2

---------||--------- of .Net, i can't remember the version, but it was the newest I could find.

Reinstallation of the computer (with the samsung disk)

 

But nothing seems to work. Mathcad 14 worked without any problems...

 

I hope somebody will help, and sorry for my bad english, i´m a dane

Unable to create 12.0 engine factory' error

Hello, I am troubleshooting an installation of Mathcad 13.1. When launching from the machine with the installation there are no problems. However, This machine is on a network and the goal is to allow user client machines to launch the application served by the machine with the installed version of Mathcad 13.1. When a client machine tries to launch Mathcad from the mapped network drive the error "Unable to create 12.0 factory" is displayed. Has anyone any experience running Mathcad locally on a client machined from a server with this error? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

FFT amplitude resolution and log scale plotting problems

Hello,

 

I used the  FFT in Mathcad and compared the results to other programs like Igor and Matlab.

 

In the attached example, I performed the FFT on a sinewave and got the expected peak at my sinewave frequency. This is great, but  the the other points close to the fundamental seem quite high in amplitude. I also notice this in other Mathcad FFT plots/examples I see on line. In the other programs I mentioned, the points close to the fundamental have very low magnitude as they should.  I think I am doing something wrong and appreciate some comments.

 

The last plot in my example shows and attempt to plot the FFT with a vertical log scale.As you can see, I get a horizontal line at 1 and the bar graph bars are referenced to that. I would like to get the bar graph lines stating at the "noise floor" of my meaurement and end on the spectral magnitude. Can anyone suggest a way to get the FFT to display the way I would like it to?

concurrent license for v14 and v15

I have Flexnet v10.8 running on a Win 2008 server. Flexnet is hosting a license for MathCAD v14. I just got a license for v15. If I configure the v15 license as a service, the v15 service fails to start. The log shows

 

EXITING DUE TO SIGNAL 32

13:44:34 (lmgrd) ptc_d exited with status 32 (Exited because another server was running)

13:44:34 (lmgrd) MULTIPLE "ptc_d" license server systems running.

 

I tried putting a copy of ptc_d in a new folder and adding a daemon path to the license file, but I get the same error.

 

Is there a method to host licenses for MathCAD 14 and 15 on the same Flexnet server? Do I have to combine license files?

Excel to Mathcad and Mathcad to Excel data transfer

Dear all,

 

I got thanks a discussion chain some Mathcad macro's to read data in any worksheet in an excel file but thw woksheet name has to be known.

My data acquisition system generates automatically excel data table with every time new worksheet names.

Is it possible to obtain all the worksheet names of an excel file directly from Mathcad ?

 

Second question:

It is possible to read directly from Mathcad data within worksheet of Excel file and it works well.

Is it possible to do the reverse, ie to write data direclty from Mathcad in specific worksheets of an excel file ?

 

I have Mathcad 14 (will have mathcad 15 next year)

Plotting a graph of the function f(x)

Hi all,

 

I am a newbie to the usage of mathcad and could do with some step by step help from you experts out there.

 

I have a mathcad problem:

 

I want to plot a graph of the function f(x) from the equation;

 

f(x) = x(14-7x)(16-7x)

            4(4-x)^2

 

I do not want to show the equation in the worksheet (and so imagine there will be some packets of data on the sheet somewhere that can be referenced to).

 

From the information I need to plot a graph of the function f(x) (repeated myself didn't I).

 

I would like the graph needs to cover the interval [0, 2.68] in the x direction and [0, 80] in the y direction.

 

If anybody can help (step by step because I'm thick....lol). I woul;d be really grateful.

"A name is required here" error in defining Table/Matrix Components

I'm trying to build a table column by column and I'm getting the "A name is required here" error.  I've double checked to make sure that I'm using the literal (".") and vector ("[") subscripts correctly to the best of my knowledge.  I've set my origin to 1 at the top of my sheet.  I've searched and can't find anything to help.

 

Any help and solutions are appreciatied.

Mathcad 15 Header In Landscape Mode

I want to create a Mathcad 15 document in landscape mode.  Which is easy to do, but I find the position of the text in the header is fixed.  I am not able to change the position of the text in the header with the Top Margin box in Page Setup.  It always stays the same,

 

 

I want to be able to put the printed document in a two hole cardboard binder, but want to have the header line visible.  The folder cover overlaps the top of the page by 7/8 inches.

 

(I know I could use the footer instead but I would have to modify a lot of documents going into the same folder so I would rather not do that.)

 

Is it possible to change the position of the text in the header?  See attached.
