Mathcad 15 won't run on Windows 7

Hi

I have a computere with windows 7 x64 there, no matter what i do, won't run mathcad 15.

The installation seems to be completed without any problems, but when i try to run the application, the splash screen shows up, but after a short period of time, the application crash without any error messages except the Windows own "Mathcad application has stopped working".  I have another computer also with windows 7 x64, and here the application will start without any problems .  The only differense between these computers is that the first one is a "samsung" installation width showelware and all, and computer nr. 2 is a vanilla installation of windows.

I have tried the following

Reinstallation of MSXML 4.0 SP.2

---------||--------- of .Net, i can't remember the version, but it was the newest I could find.

Reinstallation of the computer (with the samsung disk)

But nothing seems to work. Mathcad 14 worked without any problems...

I hope somebody will help, and sorry for my bad english, i´m a dane

This variable is undefined error when using Given/Find function, why?

Hi Everyone,

I have been using mathcad for some time but it is not until recently i started trying the Given / Find functions.

However, every time i try it, it gives me "This variable is undefined" error right after i enter the Find(...) command and hit the "=" button.

I even tried to follow the quick sheet in the tutorial/help document and it is still happening.

Could someone help me out?

Greatly apprecitated!

Quaternions

To properly understand gradient/divergence/curl you really need to work with quartenions. There are not really three separate and distinct operations, these are all just aspects of a single operator, the quaternion form of del.

The del operator applies to a quaternion field, a quaternion valued function of position in space. The gradient is just the result of applying del to a scalar field (scalars are a subalgebra of quartenions). Divergence is the negative of convergence, and convergence is the scalar part of del applied to a vector field (vectors are a subspace of quaternions). Curl is the vector part of del applied to a vector fiels.

Find() gives solution outside the constraints

Hi all,

I have a solve block as follows in MathCAD 15.0:

SolveBlockProblem.PNG

m=6

Fmin=0.469

Q=0.35

I included the constraint line to limit the solution to within the range of 0.469 to 2, but I do not understand why I would get solution which is outside this range, such as 0.345 and the negative numbers.

Could someone please help?

Thanks!

Equation solve option usage

Dear all

I am timely user of MATHCAD.I have clarifications in the Equations solve.In the attached file using the find function i got single point,answer,however one more point answer does not displayed.

For equations solve FIND,SYMBOLIC VARIABLE SOLVE,(USING ARROW MARK SYMBOL AVAILABLE IN TOOLBAR) i.e more than 5 options are available.

In other image file attached by giving input value as a sin(theta) the solve function does not solve.However if the numerical value given, the function is being solved.

For my application what is the exact command to be used,also to know other options applications.

Thanks

fitting using Linfit

Hello folks, I would be grateful if someone could help me with this general query ...

I have a measurement data set consisting of 186 points, I'm simply fitting a polynomial using the linfit command. The polynomial is:

f(x) := 1 + x + x^2 + x^3 + x^4 .... x^6

The linfit function fits fine if I use just 133 points or less which ever part of the measured data I look at. When I try to fit this equation 134 points or greater it fails.

I'm suspecting that the problem is either to do with how Mathcad goes about fitting or maybe something more fundamental such as the theory of line or curve fitting itself. I know I could try another function but I'm a bit pressed for time to try to find another especially when the one above works so well.

If anyone could shed any light on this I would be grateful. Many thanks in advance!

Cheers, Dinesh

Problem with subscript in thermodynamic problem

Good night.

I'm using mathcad prime 3.0. I try to solve a problem as stated in my textbook "Introduction to Thermodynamics in Chemical Engineering" Smith & Van Ness but I define the variables that tell me or how to resolve the situation subscript "i, j" which are integers. If anyone can help me I appreciate fully. Attached the document.

Question about upgrading to Mathcad Prime 3

$

With a Win7 computer coming, I am apparently forced to choose between trying to remain a 20+ year user of Mathcad or face major trials with a poorly-rated Mathcad Prime but I would like to know what my real options are.  I have been told by my sys admin that PTC will not sell my company a Mathcad 15 license to upgrade my current Mathcad 14 license running on my XP machine that is soon to be replaced.  I am told that I must upgrade to Prime 3 and lose all backward compatibiilty with years of work as well as, from reading here, take a big step backward in capability. If true, that would see me head for the exits.  I have hope for rationality when I read (elsewhere) in this forum that one receives a Mathcad 15 license when one purchases Mathcad Prime 3.  That would keep me with PTC, if true, since then I could continue to function with old and new Mathcad routines and wait until Prime N comes along with actual backward compatibility and full functionality to at least get me equal to Mathcad 15.  Can someone at PTC please confirm that a Mathcad 15 license comes with a Mathcad 3 Prime purchase so I can relay that information to my sys admin folks? Otherwise I don't see much of a future with PTC, although I will be shaking my head at Mathcad's apparent self destruction.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

-Jeff

PS Just for PTC information, I am a physicist, not a draftsman, and Mathcad's great advantage to me is its rapid translation of mathematical equations into computation with a very low error rate relative to coding in Matlab or other tools that I also use.

help exporting formula to text

Can anyone tell me how to convert a MathCAD formula to text? If I'm performing a symbolic manipulation on a complex expression, sometimes I will get the message "The Result is too long to display here: save to clipboard?" and the information in the clipboard is a text version of the formula. I cannot find a way to FORCE it to do this, short of performing arbitrary symbolic manipulations until the expression becomes too large to display.

What I'd like to do is take a lot of large formula that I've symbolically created in mathcad, and turn them into text so that I can paste them into a C program.

I've seen posts here to the effect that going from text to formula is hit or miss for different people, but I was hoping someone could tell me how to go the other way.

I'm using MathCAD 2001, by the way.

Mathcad prime 1.0: bug with keyboard shortcuts with Italian keyboard.

i'm sorry for my bad english

I have Mathcad Prime 1.0 on Windows 7 64(bit) Italian.

I think that i have found a very fastidious bug.

When i write expression and i use the keyboard shortcuts i have a problem for write exponents.

If i use the keyboard and i press ( ^ ) ( ctrl+ì )....mathcad prime don't write for example "x^2" but write "x if ||"

It's a very big problem for me because i'm so fast with keyboard shortcuts...and i dont' want to use a mouse command and found always manually the correct operator.

I see that this problem presents only in math form and not in text form.

I try to set english keyboard in windows and now Mathcad Prime work correctly both in math form and in text form....

The problem is that i have an Italian keyboard and not an English keyboard.

Can You help me??

Please it's very important i must use Mathcad for some university project!

more flexible notation

just a thought for a possible feature suggestion. one of the still incompletely fulfilled promise of mathcad is a documentation of work in the manner that one would see it in manual (pen and paper) work. especially as an instructor, where students may be easily confused with notation, it would be nice to use conventional notation in the mathcad worksheet. it is mostly there, but there are some small but annoying gaps. for example, i would like to use a subscript (or even superscript) asterisk as part of a variable name, but mathcad automatically thinks a subscript means a multiplication. an overbar indicating a mean would also be nice, though i can imagine some implementation problems there. there are doubtless other examples in individual application fields. of course, maybe such things can already be done and i simply don't how to do them?
